Wedding cakes are my favourite types of cakes to make. Nothing compares to the feeling of being part of a couple’s new beginnings. When it came to my own special day however, I opted to hire a colleague in the industry….Why?
To be honest, I had initially planned to make my own wedding cake and had even sketched the design and put plans into motion. Though my wedding was in another country, I had created wedding cakes and dessert tables in 3 different countries (and counting), so logistics was not a concern. About three months into wedding planning, I took a pause and decided to be completely honest with myself about making my cake. Was it really worth the time and energy investment? Could my energy be channeled towards something else?
The day of a wedding, as well as the months preceding can be SUPER stressful even for the greatest multi-tasker. In addition to running your daily life with school, work, running a business, house hunting, _______ (fill in the blank with whatever else applies to you), you’re also preparing for one of the biggest chapters of your life. Would you rather oversee the wedding plans or can you see yourself executing a lot of the tasks? Trust me, it can take a toll on your emotions, spirit and body. Some brides who have unfortunately tried to juggle everything have ended up sick on their wedding day or even on their honeymoon due to the stress. That ain’t cute!
This is why I advise my brides to delegate and let the pros alleviate the stress. As you might have surmised, I took my own advice when I got married in December 2018 and I’ll be honest with you, I have zero regrets! Instead of focusing my energy on making my wedding cake , I was able to use the time leading up to my wedding to focus on building a solid, godly foundation for my marriage by attending pre-marital classes, reading books, watching videos on Youtube and being mentored by happily married couples who share the same values with my husband and I.
Although my wedding was just for a day, I want my marriage to last a lifetime. I wish the same for yours!
